Schiller Wins Honor in Nice, France

Of 166 posters from around the world presented by scientists during the Final Symposium of GODAE (Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment) held in Nice, France, a poster submitted by UM Rosenstiel School Ph.D. student, Rafael Schiller earned a coveted ‘Best Poster’ Award at the Ocean Forecasting Symposium. The research was part of a collaborative effort supported by the Office of Naval Research, the National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP), the NOAA Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Science (CIMAS) and the NOAA Northern Gulf of Mexico Cooperative Institute (NGI). Brinson Receives 1st Interdisciplinary Ph.D.

Ayeisha Brinson is the first student to complete the University of Miami’s Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program through the Rosenstiel School. The innovative Interdisciplinary Ph.D. allowed Brinson the flexibility to develop a specialized course of research and study, which combined 4 different areas: Marine Biology & Fisheries, Marine Affairs and Policy, Sociology, and Economics. Her research took her to fishing communities in Venezuela, South Florida, Ghana and Senegal, where she evaluated the impacts of fishing fleets targeting Atlantic billfish. Read more…
